Just about all of my friends are worried about mold. Black mold, yellow mold, green mold, slimy mold, fuzzy mold, mold spores – there are so many types of mold that can invade your home and degrade your air quality with its mold spores and mold odor. Mold is known especially for having adverse health affects on those with allergies and asthma and can cause headaches, runny nose, sneezing, fatigue, rashes and asthma attacks. If you seem to have these mold related symptoms from a particular house or room, it’s …

Hi, pals. I’ve got some friends who seem to think it’s a good idea to put bleach down your drain once a week. While that may keep things flowing smoothly, I want to warn you that bleach is one bad ass chemical. If you have old pipes or old cast iron or copper pipes, it’s not just going to eat away at all that hair and grease in your pipes – it’s gonna nibble away at the pipes itself.
Also, if you have a septic tank, for galoshes’ sake, do not …

Omigosh – have you heard of this dog vomit slime mold? It’s like this creepy, crawly yellow mold that shows up in your garden and there’s really nothing you can do to get rid of it, according to everyone. Except, maybe you can EAT IT. (WHAT?!) Yeah, no kidding, I ran across this when trying to figure out what the heck it was in my neighbors garden mulch and it really is called dog vomit slime mold (that’s not just something some kid decided to call it). In Latin America, …

Hey, Pals! This weekend, I also cleaned out my air ducts. I mean, I didn’t do what the pros do (hook up a giant air duct blower and blast out all the dusties) but I did what everyone should do on a monthly basis – DIY air duct cleaning!
It’s a good thing I took the time to clean out my air ducts and air vents, too, because I discovered the silent killer: black mold.
It’s pretty simple to do this yourself. Grab yourself a brush and some all purpose vinegar cleaner, …

Yet another job for lemon juice and baking soda! My puppy has this little bed he sleeps on and the mattress part is an egg crate. In fact, I have one of these egg crates on my bed as well, but whenever I need a new one, I just buy a new one. But for doggy, whose egg crate mattress pad gets funky quite often, I like to just freshen it up once in awhile so we don’t blow our entire budget on new egg crates. The process is pretty …

Good morning, pretties – this weekend I embarked on a bathroom cleaning project. I ended up cleaning out the bathroom exhaust fan and removing some particularly mildewy bathroom caulk. Seems unrelated, but it was much needed.
Cleaning out the fan was the easy part, I must say. I just plunked down my ladder and popped out the screws and opened it up. Phew! It was massively dusty and GASP even a little mildewy. I’m not sure why I was surprised. That is where all the moisture goes, after all.
Anyway, I was …

Stone counters are the tops – most prospective homeowners dream of granite, marble or composite countertops. They are lovely to behold, pleasing to touch and relatively easy to maintain. Depending on the type of stone countertop you have, there are few methods you’ll want to do to clean it up:
General Cleaning for All Stone Countertops
Treat your stone countertop like a living thing. It will oxidize and age gracefully if you treat it right. Use a pH balanced cleaner at all times. A mild detergent mixed with a little water and …

My General Electric oven crapped out the other day and when I was on the phone with the warranty dudes, they wanted to know what the part and serial numbers were. And I had no freaking clue! It turns out that they didn’t either. It can hide in various places on GE ovens. So, in order to find the model and part number for my GE stove and oven, they told me to do the following:
Open the oven door and look for a plate between the hinges.
Lift the service panel …

Good afternoon, Wishywashers. Today we’ll be talking about how to remove stubborn stains on a glass top stove. Yep, these stoves are way easier to clean up than the your typical range with the coils and the elements and whatnot, but if you get sugar syrup or melted plastic or caked on, baked on stains on your glass stovetop, you’ll be in a world of frustration. Here’s a few methods for eliminating some of the tougher stains on glass stovetops.
First, let’s begin with the proper way to clean your cook …

Yo, pals! So, I was in the market for a new deck earlier this year and they are now calling vinyl “low maintenance” instead of “no maintenance.” Why? Because, honestly, nothing is no maintenance. Anything ignored will become scummy and run down, even if it’s made out of Superman’s fingernail clippings. It’s true, vinyl fences, vinyl decking and vinyl railings are extremely easy to maintain (no stain, no paint, no termites) and if you don’t mind your house looking kind of like a Fisher Price home, then they are probably …
